Brenda McGrath, Author-Illustrator
In the very beginning stage as she developed her children’s book series, Brenda McGrath strived to learn how to make ALL of her books affordable for ALL households. Being a young single mother, she was taught early how tough it was financially. With this understanding and able to relate to single parents, or less privileged families.
"My children are my greatest critics. I get such a kick out of some of their responses when introduced to a new character to my book series. I observe their first reaction to the character and story when they are reading or being read to. By doing this, I can perceive how interested they are. If they’re drawn in to the story, then I know other children will enjoy it as well. This is a real motivator, and helps me to get more into the story."
"I love to travel and meet different types of people wherever I go. I’ve been told by my friends that I have a tendency to interview others and not even realize it. I don’t know if it’s a good or a bad thing, but I love to find out as much as possible about a person. People are very intriguing and we can learn so much from others no matter what personality type they have. The more I learn about different people and cultures, the more my readers will learn about them as well. Even when creating silly characters in our children’s book series, I like to base their events on everyday challenges that people go through or have gone through. This way, every young reader can relate to the material in our stories."
